Frequently Asked Questions

What is a Sluggo?

The Sluggos were a softball team that played in and around the Dayton area from 1980 through 1995, dominating the Wright-Patterson civilian recreational softball league with its timely hitting, superior defense, and post-game festivities.  As our softball careers were winding down and our participation in fantasy sports leagues starting to ramp up, it seemed appropriate to continue using the team name and philosophy.

What is the difference between a Challenge and a League?
How do I know if I can get in on the action?

A Sluggo Challenge is open to everyone, regardless of age, gender, race, religion, or team allegiance.  A Challenge can have an infinite number of entries.

A Sluggo League has a limited number of participants, usually 8 to 12 "team owners", depending on the type of league.  A League is typically composed of Dayton-area sports enthusiasts that get together to draft baseball and football players at the beginning of each season for Rotisserie-style fantasy play.  Participating in a League is normally by invitation, so let us know if you are interested in joining a league when a spot becomes available.

Are there any hidden costs that we are paying for with our entry fees?

In each Sluggo Challenge, 100% of the entry fees are paid out to the winners.  Many years ago we would use up to 5% of the entry fees to help defray the monthly costs of maintaining our web site, but that practice stopped once we moved to the Earthlink web-hosting service included free of charge with its basic ISP subscription.

In the Sluggo Leagues, each team owner pays their pro-rated share of the costs to utilize the CBS Sportsline league commissioner services.

What is a "trusted Sluggo representative"?

When we first started out participating in the Sluggo Challenges, we were a small group of co-workers and friends that loved all kinds of sports that needed a way to get involved in the various sporting events.  As the years went by, our little group grew into the vast network that we have today, mostly due to participants inviting their friends to join in on the fun.  A trusted Sluggo representative is someone that has invited many of their friends to participate in the Challenges and is someone that we can trust will collect new participants' entry fees so that the winners can collect their winnings.
